    "Everything we know and love about Instagram, but it moves."

    This morning was full of excitement across all of our social channels and the world of tech news. After much speculation of Facebook/Instagram releasing a new product, this morning’s Livestream event shared their biggest news to date. 

    Instagram has officially announced their new video feature. 

    The new video function is embedded into the app with the following key features:

    • 15 seconds of footage
    • 13 new filters available only for video
    • Users get to pick their cover frame
    • Video footage can be imported from video library
    • Footage does not loop
    • Accessible on web
    • Available on iOS and Android

    The most tech advanced feature to date is Cinema. It allows users to create videos like pros. Say farewell to choppy videos we have come to expect from mobile video and say hello to quality video you can be proud of.

    FACEBOOK GRAPH SEARCH

    Today, Facebook launched Graph Search, its innovative and robust internal search system. Graph Search, different from Google’s web search capabilities, will answer your personal queries by giving you tailored results from your social graph, or network.

    The search improvements will allow users to ask questions in simple Siri-esque language, such as “which of my friends live in Vancouver?” and will be intelligent enough to rank your friends based on how much interaction you’ve had with them. The closer your friend, the higher they will appear in your results list. Essentially replacing the conventional hashtag, Graph Search also offers the capability to search your network based on stories or photos you’ve Liked.

    The first version of Graph Search focuses on four main areas - people, photos, places, and interests - and starts today in beta, appearing as a large blue search bar at the top of your Facebook page.

    As the personalized Graph Search becomes more widely used we anticipate it becoming the most efficient way to actively seek out word-of-mouth information.

    We anticipate future phases will lead to:

    * Organizations directly targeting ad-buys for specific searches by users

    * Tourism and travel destinations being determined based on popular rankings by the engagement of friends, and friends-of-friends, liking, commenting and checking-in

    * Dating services introducing people online based on friends, interests and location

    * Recruitment efforts by companies based on refined searches for specific skill sets

    Based on your interests, that Facebook has been collecting for years, Graph Search will help you find what you’re looking for and will grow to ensure you never have to leave Facebook to get what you want.

    The success of Facebook didn’t happen overnight - but it is astounding. With more than 800 million members, it’s evolved from a network of university students to a global neighbourhood. This revolutionary platform has completely changed the way we communicate, and strengthened the degrees of connection between people and their friends, interests, favourite sports teams, and of course their favourite brands. 

    Other networks like Twitter, Tumblr and new kid on the block, Pinterest, have achieved an impressive user base in their own right, but nothing has come close to Facebook. It’s always difficult to predict changes and trends in social media, but with the recent news of Facebook’s $5 billion IPO announcement, we feel they’re a safe bet.
